Castle Peak Monastery
Since the monastery is high on a hillside, it is better to be approached by a taxi. If you want some exercise, continue with the LR train route No.506, 610 or 615, off at Tsing Shan Tsuen Station and walk up for 15-20 mins. Also known as Ching Shan (Green Mountain) Monastery and Pei Tu (Cup Ferry) Monastery, there is no doubt that this monastery is among one of the oldest in Hong Kong whose history can be traced for over 1,000 years. Legend has it that a monk used magic to make his wooden bowl a "cup ferry" (pei tu) to carry himself across the river. He then stopped at the Castle Peak and built the monastery. The monastery, together with the huge green mountain it sat on, had been rated as one of the eight most beautiful scenes in the Canton area in classical Chinese literature.
